Vilje Celin Kern Vestenfor

Light with a wavelength of 660 nanometer is situated at the mid of the red part of the visible spectrum; the reddest red that can be perceived by the human eye. In light therapy this very nuance of red is often used for its capability to penetrate the surface of the skin and stimulate the production of energy in the cells. It’s claimed to hold further qualities such as wound healing, improving the quality of sleep, reducing inflammation and pain, and not to forget reversing the effects of aging.

For the exhibition Spleen Heart Liver Lung, Vilje Celin Kern Vestenfor has colored BO’s space with this red light. Intertwined with the sound of running water, text, and sculptural elements, it emerges as a multimedia installation that challenge the experience of time and space. The visitors are led into an achronical context, a waiting room, but even here time passes despite appearing as still.

Vilje Celin Kern Vestenfor (b.1989) lives and works in Oslo. She holds an MFA from the Oslo National Academy of the Arts, and a BFA from the Bergen Academy of Art and Design. Her work has been presented in solo exhibitions at Centralbanken in Oslo, and Arcway Nightlands Connector Jennifee-See Alternate in Copenhagen. Vestenfor has also been part of larger group presentations at Kunstnernes Hus, and Destiny’s in Oslo, After School Special at Landmark in Bergen, and Fokus Video Art Festival at Nikolaj Kunsthal in Copenhagen.

«Spleen Heart Liver Lung» has been realized with the generous support of Arts and Culture Norway, Oslo Municipality, and the Norwegian Visual Artists Fund.
