Ragnhild Monsen (b. 1948) graduated from National College of Art and Design Teachers (1973–76). In the period 1976–80, she was an assistant to the textile artist Synnøve Anker Aurdal, who later became an important colleague and friend. Monsen thus works first and foremost with tapestries, and is both a bearer of tradition and an innovator of this essential part of the textile art field. The artist has a long track record with large public art assignments, significant solo exhibitions and installations both within the room and innature. The 3 x12 meter long tapestry ‘Universe inside’ which hangs at Rikshospitalet in Oslo, is one of her most famous works.
In 1997, she was, as the first textile artist, invited to be a festival exhibitor in Bergen.
