Malin Bülow

In several of Bülow's works, the body is placed in direct relation to architecture. Via elastic textile membranes, which are stretched out to monumental seemingly rigid sculptures, she connects bodies and structural structures. Dancers activate the works in slow and lasting performative sessions. The textile membranes that enclose the dancers' bodies become an elongated skin that in a sensitive and almost claustrophobic way seems to alternately protect and lock.

In her exhibition at BOA, Bülow has created an installation that enters into a dialogue with the structures in BOA’s gallery space. The site-specific installation, which extends through all three rooms, intervenes and embraces the lines and structures of the rooms. Here it is the audience itself that takes care of the bodily dimension. Static Tension stages a meeting between the sculptures’ porous border, their own body and the architectural form of the rooms.

Malin Bülow (b. 1979, Jönköping, Sweden) is an Oslo-based artist. Since her graduation exhibition from the Academy of Fine Arts in Oslo in 2016, she has had a number of exhibitions both nationally and internationally. She has received special attention for her elastic, textile performative installations. In the autumn of 2019, she was involved with the work Elastic Bonding at the Biennale in Lyon, which has now entered the collection of the Modern Art Museum in Lyon. The work has in various versions also been shown during the CHART art fair at Kunsthall Charlottenborg in Copenhagen, SOFT gallery in Oslo, Austrian Cultural Forum in Berlin, Hi Gordon Collective in Vienna, Cosmoscow International Art Fair in Moscow, Kunstbanken – Hedmark Kunstsenter in Hamar, the festival ” Sted Søker Kunst ”in Ski under the auspices of BOA, Babel showroom and Multiple dance festival in Trondheim. Upcoming projects include the exhibition Shapeshifters at Malmö Art Museum and Lustwarande – Platform for Contemporary Sculpture in Tilburg, the Netherlands.
